Since the night of the Timeraiser is really focused on connecting volunteers and organizations, the Kick Off night is a great opportunity to shine the light on the art element of the Timeraiser and acknowledge the important contribution of artists to making our cities vibrant, exciting and unique. We’re very proud that we have corporate partners that allow us to invest directly in the careers of artists. And since the artists have all been paid fair market value for their work, when they attend the Timeraiser they can really just enjoy the evening, connect with art lovers and watch as multiple people pledge to do volunteer time to ‘earn’ their work.
The Kick Off night therefore allows us to highlight this relationship – Timeraiser sponsors are investing directly in the careers of artists. And since our National Presenting partner, WestJet, is vital to our Vancouver program, we were stoked to have the local representative from WestJet, Sam Martorana, out at the Kick Off night last night. He’ll be rallying his colleagues at from WestJet’ s Vancouver office to come out next week. Levitra achat Viagra alternatives
A special thanks to Lynda Gerty from Vantage Point for welcoming all the guests, and to Jessica Evans who’s been working through the year to rally the community to come out next week (read about her experience with Timeraiser here – she’s an art winner from the 1st Vancouver Timeraiser). Ottawa Kicks Into Gear!
On October 6th the Community Foundations of Canada released their 2009 Vital Signs reports. Vital Signs are community check ups that report on the overall viability and heath of a given community. Truly, for anyone just starting to think about getting involved in the community, a great first step is, if possible, going through your local Vital Signs reports; understanding the major issues facing your community will arm you with knowledge to guide decisions on how and where to give of your time, talents and treasures. Levitra pill Viagra sin receta Pastillas levitra Levitra prix pharmacie A variety of important issue areas are analyzed but of interest to us here at Framework relates to the Arts & Culture section. Not surprisingly, one of the findings of Ottawa’s 2009 Vital Signs is that individuals employed in a particular subset of the Art & Culture field, particularly those in visual and performing arts, have annual earnings that are on average half of those employed in the broader Arts & Culture field. I won’t go into specifics around this topic of why investing in local artists is important, because we’ve covered it in Timeraiser Supports Artists
Coincidentally, and appropriately, October 6th was also the 2009 Ottawa Kick Off Celebration where we handed over, on behalf of our corporate partners, over $14,000 worth of cheques to local emerging visual artists. The night truly is a perfect example of a variety of different stakeholder groups getting together to make their community more vibrant and healthy in the most meaningful way – lending their expertise, skills and positions to charitable causes and a community that is important to them. Take local business-owner, Carley Schelck of The Urban Elementwho offered her beautiful venue and delicious food as a backdrop for the party; Corporate partners that donated funds to purchase the artwork; volunteers from a variety of backgrounds who are using their skills as lawyers, managers, directors, event planners, etc to plan and promote the Timeraiser; Artists who even after collecting their cheques still stayed to talk and enjoy the night; Community capacity builders like the Community Foundation of Ottawa, Volunteer Ottawa and United Way who have helped bring the Timeraiser to life in Ottawa and continue to offer networks and support various aspects of the program; and finally Kaufen viagra and MP, Paul Dewar, who stopped by to stay in touch with what his fellow citizens are up to. The night afforded an excellent opportunity for the many people involved one way or another in planning the Timeraiser to meet and socialize before the big day on September 24th. With 22 of the 25 artists in the room, it was a treat to have the time to chat with them about their careers, the Vancouver art scene and hear the story behind the piece that will be in this year’s Timeraiser.
We heard feedback that the innovative contributions we and our corporate partners are making to the lives and careers of emerging artists is unique; the consensus being that indeed emerging artists are asked numerous times each year to donate artwork to charitable causes. But charitable tax receipts don’t pay the hydro bills or even help meet the costs associated with creating the work

Jeff Tessier, Lyric Theatre
“As a participating artist I had the opportunity to display my work to people who would not otherwise see it and meet people in my community who were both civic-minded and engaged in the arts. This was a real pleasure. Viagra levitra Viagra sale Over the counter viagra Best of all, perhaps, is that the exposure I had through Timeraiser led to several paid jobs.
