• 2nd Edmonton Kick Off Night $10,000 to Local Artists

  This was a great metaphorical backdrop as nearly all the artists participating in the 2nd Edmonton Timeraiser showed up with their artwork hours later. It was the ultimate handoff: they dropped of their art and we gave them their cheques, over $10,000 worth this year.   Lorna St Thomas from Enbridge Inc, the Edmonton Timeraiser Founding Partner, was on hand to watch the smiling faces as the exchange happened throughout the evening. She even overheard one artist say, “this type of exchange never happens”, which made both Lorna and I smile ear-to-ear. This same artist also works at one of the charities that participated at the inaugural Edmonton Timeraiser. • Kicking Off the last week until the 3rd Vancouver Timeraiser!

  Guests enjoy conversation and artwork at the 2010 Vancouver Kick Off Party

  Over a dozen artists were in attendance to drop off their artwork and pick up their cheques.  It was great to put a face to the talent, and everyone in attendance marveled at this year’s selection of work. Online levitra Kauf von viagra

  Since the night of the Timeraiser is really focused on connecting volunteers and organizations, the Kick Off night is a great opportunity to shine the light on the art element of the Timeraiser and acknowledge the important contribution of artists to making our cities vibrant, exciting and unique.  We’re very proud that we have corporate partners that allow us to invest directly in the careers of artists.  And since the artists have all been paid fair market value for their work, when they attend the Timeraiser they can really just enjoy the evening, connect with art lovers and watch as multiple people pledge to do volunteer time to ‘earn’ their work.

  The Kick Off night therefore allows us to highlight this relationship – Timeraiser sponsors are investing directly in the careers of artists.  And since our National Presenting partner, WestJet, is vital to our Vancouver program, we were stoked to have the local representative from WestJet, Sam Martorana, out at the Kick Off night last night.  He’ll be rallying his colleagues at from WestJet’ s Vancouver office to come out next week. • 2010 United Way Toronto Campaign Target: $113 Million

  This morning United Way Toronto announced its 2010 Campaign target of $113 million dollars. I’ve been involved with United Way Toronto for several years now, contributing both my time and money plus ‘allocating’ some of my organizations’ resources to assist the work of United Way member agency work (visit www.timeraiser.ca).

  Like many Torontonians who contribute each year, I am continually impressed by United Way Toronto’s effectiveness.
  Whether it is the research and policy work such as predatory lending practices that resulted in major legislative protection for Ontarians (See Bill 48) or investing in the highly productive Action for Neighbourhood Change program, few organizations can demonstrate such impact for each dollar raised as United Way Toronto.
