6,830 hours raised at Vancouver’s 3rd Timeraiser. Edmonton here we come!
Last Thursday, September 23rd, over 250 enthusiastic Vancouverites energetically rolled into the Roundhouse Community Centre. Armed with a passion for community and an interest in the arts, they got started chatting with the 25 organizations that were in attendance and perusing the 25 works of art on display. We ran a second WestJet contest at the Timeraiser so we could hear from Timeraiser participants. Another great addition to this year’s Timeraiser was QR codes for agencies and artists. On each agency poster and each artwork bid sheet we added a QR code (check out this short video demoing the process). Participants could therefore scan the image with their smartphone (Blackberry, iPhone or Android-based phones all worked) and the contact information of the agency or artist would immediately be downloaded onto the person’s phone. At the 2010 Vancouver Timeraiser
At the end of the evening 80% of the works of art went for the maximum bid and a total of 6,830 hours were pledged to local organizations. I heard from many organizations that they had a ton of great conversations, and overheard a participant saying, “…disappointed I didn’t win art, but still excited to start volunteering!”
A special thanks to Vantage Point for their ongoing partnership on the Vancouver Timeraiser program, as well as the many volunteers who made the night such a success.

Food Security and U-picking Summer Eats

Manifesto’s Official Launch with the Governor General’s Youth Dialogue
Yesterday, Team Timeraiser attended Michaelle Jean’s final stop in her Year of Youth Dialogue series, Can We Talk. The event, featured as the official launch to Manifesto, was full of energy and well attended; over 500 engaged youth arrived at 99 Sudbury to hear the Governor General speak, and to discuss the issues and successes that are important to those in the room. The Governor General is doing a lot for Canada’s urban arts, bringing together local communities to discuss essential topics related to youth and the arts.
