On Saturday October 17th over 300 people energetically rolled into TransAlta Arts Barns to experience the 1st Edmonton Timeraiser. Each participant had a couple hours to ‘speed date’ with 20 nonprofit organizations. Once the preliminary matching was complete, he or she was eligible to bid on artwork using volunteer time. Winning bidders now have 12 months to complete their pledge to receive their artwork at the 2nd Edmonton Timeraiser scheduled for October 2010.

A special thanks to our volunteers and other supporters for making this inaugural Timeraiser so successful. Here are some quick Timeraiser results:

  • Over 300 people attended with 180 participants making the ‘pledge’.
  • 4,145 total volunteer hours pledged, of which 50% pledged by art bidders.
  • 21 of 25 works of art went for the maximum bid of 125 hours.
  • 20 Timeraiser volunteers contributed 1,000+ hours to organize.
  • $12,000+ invested into the careers of local emerging artists.
  • 25+ community leaders in attendance.
  • Supporters in attendance: Enbridge, EPCOR, Molson, CityTV, Edmonton Airports, CKUA Radio, Next Gen, Shaw TV, Volunteer Edmonton, United Way Capital Region, & members of ChangeCamp Edmonton.

Here are just a few comments from the night:

For a small charity (such as ours) to be present and ‘showcased’ in the manner that you did was nothing short of magical for us here at Uncles & Aunts. We had a great opportunity to share with the community at large our work with children-at-risk and mission of helping single-parent families. Your work and vision for the charitable sector was evident and very well received. The ambiance and well planned event shone throughout the evening. You provided a much needed service to our agency and we are so grateful to have been part of that special night.

– Alice Rachynski, Executive Director at Uncles & Aunt at Large

For the first time ever the Timeraiser was a live-streamed web event with running online commentary, Twitter feeds, images, and conversations. Timeraiser participant, Tad Hargrave had the winning tweet of the night.

“Timeraiser chooses to inspire people to get involved in their own communities. Inspiration is sustainable. Guilt and obligation isn’t.”
