A Tale of 2 Taxi Cab Rides
In an earlier post, you read that we had our Ottawa kick off night at Urban Element on Tuesday October 6th. It was a great night, glad that I made the trip. However, it was a short stay and I had to get back to Toronto early the next morning. I couldn’t have had a more polar opposite cab ride experience from my hotel to the Ottawa airport and from the Toronto airport to my house. Online levitra Levitra prix pharmacie
The first cabbie was, frankly, an a-hole. He sounded like Glenn Beck from Fox News. Kaufen viagra I recorded some of it on my Blackberry. His list of grievances were long. Students at University of Ottawa. Ottawa ambulance drivers. Muncipal Councillors. Other cab drivers (the increased competition has eroded his earning potential).
When I returned to the office, I shared the recording with my colleagues. They were shocked.
After the recording ended, I told them about another cabbie who picked me up from the Toronto airport. Levitra pas cher I was his first fare. Ever. He is a short little man who moved from Bangladesh to Montreal five years ago. Cheap viagra online It was a joy to speak to him. Viagra for women Viagra sale Levitra contraindicaciones
Haq Zahidul is his name.
In Montreal, Haq worked in a textile plant for minimum wage. Viagra alternatives Just last month Haq moved to Toronto because his daughter started her BA at the University of Toronto. Haq was going to do what he needed to do so her life would be better than his. Haq’s daughter’s goal is to become a Chartered Accountant. Viagra levitra
Haq admittedly does not know Toronto very well, so I gave him some tips on where to find good fares at what time of the day. Viagra sin receta
Since making the Timeraiser a full time gig a few years back, I have had to take hundreds of cab rides. Pastillas levitra I’ve met many a cab driver from many different walks of life and visited lots of different neighbourhoods. In all these cases, I’ve heard about how hard it is for many of them to find the right information at the right time to make well informed decisions (or opinions in the case of the a-hole).
While on one hand, the first cab driver was simply ignorant to the urban trends and issues he was ranting about. But on the other, it’s not like the data and information on city budget is readily available. As a citizen, you really have to go to extreme lengths to get some basic information about where tax dollars are being spent.
Haq’s challenge with information was very different: while he proudly displayed his GPS in his car on his first day, his training didn’t give him a very good he Viagra bestellung ad start in a city that has a very saturated cab industry.
I’ve been following the open data movement for a while. The work of David Eaves, Ryan Merkely and others. My tale of two cab drivers experience has compelled our team to dive into the space. Brand viagra
I’m ple ased to introduce Mike Dror, Kauf von viagra a University of Toronto Planning student who will be spending the next 6 months with us – a day a week – to map publicly available data. Mike will be writing his first blog post shortly. If a picture can tell a thousand words, interactive maps can tell a million. Levitra achat
