In line with our mission to help people recognize and build their Civic Footprint through giving, volunteering and participating, this blog will feature personal stories and experiences from our Timeraiser participants. Our first feature is about Matthew LeQuelenec, a 2008 Calgary art winner who spearheaded the motionball Marathon of Sport event in Calgary.

around his Deloitte office. Having recently moved to Calgary from Toronto, he was impressed by the turnout and energy that the Timeraiser event harnessed. He was quickly swept up in the friendly competition and enthusiasm of the evening. Completing his pledge of 150+ hours, Matthew
spent the bulk of his volunteer time working in support of the Calgary Corporate Challenge and Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta. He describes the experience as transformative, and has since gone on to launch his own event for 2009; the motionball Marathon of Sport in support of the Special Olympics.
The Marathon of Sport sees motionball supporters compete alongside Special Olympians in a range of sports. motionball’s mandate is to introduce the next generation of donors, volunteers and sponsors to the Special Olympics movement through integrated social and sporting events. To date, motionball has donated over one million dollars to Special Olympics Canada.

The motionball Marathon of Sport currently operates in 4 cities across Canada including Toronto, Halifax, Vancouver and Calgary. The next motionball event is in Calgary on August 15th.
